How many days a year do you fish? 50 and maybe more
Favorite piece of gear? My 14-foot jon boat. I bought it new in 1987.
Gear you splurged on? A Honda 15 hp four-stroke. Why? My Evinrude 5 hp was a 1961.
Most memorable outing in Illinois? About 2 weeks ago I was fishing the Illinois River near Pekin and I caught a 28-inch, 10-pound, 10-ounce catfish. My 8-pound test line broke and I had a "bobber stopper" on the line. It broke above the bobber. I thought I just lost it. But in a few minutes I saw the bobber going up and down. So I got closer and tried to get it buy casting for it. On the third cast I caught it and pulled it slowly to the boat. I leaned over and got the fish with a dip net.
What got you interested in fishing? I was a teen-ager in the 1950s and there was not much to do other than mow grass, work in the garden, etc. I also had a paper route. So I used to walk down to the Peoria Lock & Dam and go fishing.
How long have you been fishing? Since about 1950 when I was 13.
Favorite species to fish for? Crappie, bass, bluegill and any panfish.
Favorite places to fish in Illinois? Banner Marsh and Mark Twain Lake in Missouri.
